Description

Dal Makhni is known universally as a quintessential Indian dish. My version is a home-style preparation that I've been making for decades. I pressure cook the protein-rich lentils and kidney beans and add spices and a little bit of fresh cream. This is a wholesome, nutritious and an irresistible dish.

Kaddu (or winter-melon) is a common side that is enjoyed in most Indian homes - but rarely made at restaurants. Enjoy the dal and kaddu with Basmati rice and naan. A small portion of cucumber and tomato salad is included to balance out the dish.

Ingredients

red kidney beans, masoor lentils, urad lentils, oil, ginger-garlic paste, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, fresh cream, cumin seeds, garlic, onions, winter melon, red whole peppers, cucumber, tomatoes, vinegar, black onion seeds
